What are the causes of enlarged prostate? Get informed about the prostate enlargement causes!
If you are looking for information about the causes of enlarged prostate, make sure to read this article! Among the things you will discover is what causes prostate enlargement and which age groups of men are most likely to develop enlarged prostate.
To begin by saying that men who are most likely to develop an enlarged prostate (and further on have difficulties because of prostate enlargement) are senior men.
Prostate hits its growth peak when men turn seniors
In other words, the older you are the bigger the chances to have problems because of the size of your prostate. Some data shows that around 90 % of men that have 80 years or more are affected with this problem.
That means that age is almost certainly one of the main causes for having an enlarged prostate. This can be explained with the way prostate evolves as the years go by (meaning as your grow older):
Scientists and doctors have figured out that prostate grows throughout our whole life. If you would compare your current prostate size with the prostate size at the time you were born, you would find out how much it has grown already.
According to some estimates, prostate enlarges itself for about 20 times the birth size. By the time we turn 50 years old, it becomes big enough to start pressing on the urethra and making urination difficult.
Senior men experience testosterone hormone changes
Another factor that is believed to influence the prostate enlargement men are hormone changes that men experience in their body by the time they become seniors.
Basically what happens is that as we grow older and become seniors, the Testosterone level in our male body gets lower. At the same time, it also changes itself in a different form known as »dihidrotestosterone« or DHT.
What DHT does is it makes cells in the prostate to multiply itself numerous times, which causes your prostate to enlarge itself as well.
But Testosterone level is not the only hormone change that happens in the senior male body. While Testosterone lower itself, other (more feminine) hormones like Prolactin, Estrogen, Luteinizing hormone and FHS hormone actually gets increased.
This is also the reason why senior men are also more likely to experience other body changes like gained weight and the decrease in the strength of the muscles.
To sum it up, there are many causes of enlarged prostate. While doctors and scientists believe the main two causes for prostate enlargement are age and hormone changes in senior males, there are also other causes for this condition and many of them are still unknown.
